Activities
Based in the centre of a natural playground we are spoilt for choice on activity options! Outdoor adventure activities are fantastic fun and they help build self-esteem and self-confidence, too. Our activities challenge participants to try something new, which results in a real sense of achievement and adventure.
Whichever you choose, we supply all the safety equipment needed, from waterproofs to footwear, and qualified instructing staff. Speak to us to help you filter down to the activities most suitable for the aims and outcomes of your visit.
Accessible
Gilwern Outdoor Adventures offer experiences as unique as the individuals attending, and our specialist all-terrain wheelchairs, Bikes, Canoeing and Climbing Equipment enable us to tailor inclusive experiences aimed to meet most personal requirements.
Team Development
A series of short challenges aimed to develop teamwork with a competitive edge. Reflecting throughout to develop skills, teams will rally together to complete a final task head on against other groups.
Field Studies
The local outdoor environment and class setting at Gilwern Adventures complement each other to support the school curriculum in delivering a variety of field studies days as part of your residential, or a single day visit.
Training
Various trainers use the site to deliver their National Governing Body Awards, first Aid Courses, or Forest Schools Trainings.
John Muir Award
As an approved provider, we offer a bespoke residential experience to take your participants through the journey of the John Muir Award.
Caving
Splash, Climb, Crawl or Walk your way through a natural playground, where with the support of your team you can push your boundaries of exploration whilst learning the geology and history that makes up the Brecon Beacons.
Hill Walking
With a rich History to explore on foot, the immediate local environment offers a range of experiences which can be accessible, adaptable, and incorporate some of our certified courses such as National Navigation Awards.
Geocaching
A digital treasure hunt to explore the wilderness. Use our specialist knowledge and equipment to find the hidden cache, before recording your visit and collecting the next.
Orienteering
A competitive sport to collect traditional or digital markers, either at our centre or one of our regularly used sites across the Brecon Beacons and Wye Valley.
Climbing and Abseiling
Gain specialist knowledge and techniques to push your comfort zone and scale new heights whilst supporting your team on natural rock at one of our local climbing sites away from the centre.
High Ropes
The indoor and Outdoor Climbing wall offers the first steps into learning climbing skills, whereas the crate Stack, Leap of faith and Vertical assault course offer a fun twist as a next step in developing your climbing journey.
Mountain Biking
grow your skills with biking games or a short ride onsite or get out into the wilds for the day to explore on two wheels across the varied terrain offered in the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons led by our instructing staff.
Archery
With an Indoor and outdoor range, perfect your aim with this progressive sport under the tuition of our Archery Instructors.
Canoe & Kayaking
Use both open and closed topped boats to explore the rich waterways local to the centre with your friends. Splash your way through games and develop your skills to navigate still or moving waters.
Improvised Raft Building
As a team learn new skills to construct a raft before entering in a challenge out on the water. Will your raft hold up to the challenge?
Stand up Paddleboard
Perfect your skills on our Stand Up Paddleboards out on the water with our experienced instructors.
Stream Scramble or Gorge Walk
Explore the waterways by splashing, swimming, climbing or sliding through streams and Rivers near to the centre.
